Your Core Genius, Made Visible

(To You)

01

Your Genius exists.

02

It's shaped and deepened through experience.

03

Over time, your patterns have become second nature.

04

What becomes second nature becomes difficult to see, in particular for the owner.

05

What cannot be seen cannot be deliberately expressed.

06

What cannot be expressed cannot be deliberately designed for — in your practice or your business.

A hand-drawn, ink style illustration. Several past experiences are flowing into a cloud with vaguely discernible ripples, but no clear pattern.

What makes you, you, has been taking shape through every experience
—even when you cannot yet see the pattern.

You have a unique Genius: An orientation, an intuition, and a way of perceiving, understanding, and acting that has been shaped and deepened through decades of experience. It has grown, adapted, and matured through everything you’ve encountered.

It isn’t something you need to acquire.

It’s already present, and always operating, in the patterns you have developed across a lifetime:

  • The distinctions that seem obvious to you but elude others.
  • What you notice and what you disregard.
  • How you can cut through certain situations knowing which details matter and which do not.
  • The architecture you instinctively create around the work, the energy you bring to it, and how you connect with the people involved.

These patterns have become so natural, so thoroughly integrated into what you perceive and how you understand and act, that they may not seem distinctive at all. What is second nature to you can seem so ordinary that it becomes invisible.

But what feels ordinary to you can have a profound impact when experienced by someone else.

The patterns you've shaped over a lifetime are always operating,
even before they become visible to you.

And what remains invisible is difficult to articulate with clarity or consistency, much less deliberately design for in your practice and business.

When you cannot see or articulate your distinctive way of seeing, understanding and acting, it's natural to fall back on what is easier to name: your résumé, credentials, experience, established methods, familiar service categories, and language borrowed from the wider market.

Your deeper perspective and understandings remain largely unexpressed even as they influence the results you're able to create with clients.

This is how coaches and consultants with something genuinely distinctive to offer can, by following common tactics and advice, end up looking and sounding like everyone else.

Your business is a whole system. Specifically, it's the system that enables your work to reach the right people, who need the work you do, while you generate a sustaining income.

Your practice is different from the business that makes the practice visible and accessible to others, and through which you generate income. It's the way you do the work. It shapes whom you work with, what you help them see or change, how you work together, and the kind of impact you are best equipped to create for your clients.

Your practice is how your particular genius becomes visible, accessible and useful to others.

And since your genius is always operating, the distinction we're making here is whether you know it well enough to intentionally design your practice and ultimately your business from you, or whether this is happening mostly through trial and error.

Because when it's mostly unconscious, any direction can look like a good direction. Any opportunity can look like a good opportunity. And any advice can look great. Until it isn't.

Where the primary differentiator isn't about whether the approach, tactics, direction or opportunity can work. It's about whether it's the kind of advice, direction or opportunity that fits you, as you express unique distinctions, nuances, perspectives and principles through your work with the clients you're best equipped to impact.

You need to figure out what game you're playing. More than that, you must figure out what game is worth playing. This isn't something someone else can answer for you. It's something you must answer for yourself.

Without a clear sense of your own patterns, any advice can look like great advice for how to build your business. So which advice do you choose, or do you choose to try all of it and hope something works?

You can likely work in many different ways, with many different clients, and on many different types of challenges. But being able to do the work is not the same as doing your best work, or creating your best impact with others.

Certain challenges and ways of working draw on what is most distinctive in you. Certain clients need the perspectives, nuances, and understandings you bring. Others don't, don't yet recognize that they do, or aren't ready. All of that is okay.

Part of what you have to decide is how ready a potential client must be before you can work with them. Nobody else can make that decision for you.

Bringing a method or process that almost any other coach or consultant could bring isn't what makes you uniquely valuable. And when a client primarily needs someone to get work done, that's a different kind of engagement—closer to freelancing, contracting, or fractional work. None of these are wrong.

Some clients want processes they think are tried-and-true, even when those processes don’t fit their context. Some want someone to just get stuff done. That may be the kind of business you want. Or not. But it is a choice you have to make, and nobody else can make it for you.

These are only a few examples of questions whose answers don’t exist in other people’s advice or perspectives:

  • What kind of clients and at whatever state of readiness?
  • What kind of work and what kind of work with clients? (Because these are different)
  • What kind of business best expresses your practice so others can best interact with you?

Answers to these questions must come from you.

This is the difference when we start with what makes you, you—and is where the Your Core Genius Made Visible 6-week experience comes in.

During this 6-week live experience, we’ll unearth your unique patterns by exploring:

  • When are you at your best? (Not generically—the specifics)
  • What seems ordinary and obvious to you but surprises others?
  • What wisdom have you gleaned from your greatest struggles?
  • What nuances do you understand that others aren’t aware of?
  • What distinctions do you see clearly—this not that—that other people miss?

These aren't your patterns, but they point to them.

Over six weeks, you'll go deeper into these and more, pulling your unique ways of seeing, solving, and working to the surface. You'll externalize these patterns as they become available for you to see and begin to design from.

Because only by externalizing these patterns can you begin to see how you can make them accessible and readily available for others to interact with. That's how you'll ultimately develop a practice—not in this 6-week program, but from what you derive through this program).

At the end of this six week program, you won’t have:

  • A business model.
  • A marketing plan.
  • An exact playbook to define your practice or business (because there isn’t one).

Nor will you leave with another boatload of information, models, and methods you don’t know what to do with.

Instead, the core of what you’ll leave with is:

  • Fundamental principles from which you operate right now, keeping in mind that these can and will evolve.
  • Non-negotiables: What must and must not be part of the work you do, the clients you work with, and the business you build around them.
  • Nuances and distinctions that you understand but your clients consistently miss.

And here’s how this will work.

Having patterns isn't the same as knowing what they are, using them as decision-filters, and designing from them.

This will be an experiential learning environment, not an information-delivery course.

More information won't reveal your Genius or make or make your unique distinctions apparent to you. Experience is required.

Over this six weeks, we'll use a reoccurring pattern to explore and pull your Genius to the surface. Each session will have two parts.

Part one: The 60-minute experience

Having the experience.

  • Personal reflection.
  • Initial externalization through small-group experiences.
  • Refined externalization through larger-group dialogue.
  • Recognition and feedback as you experience other people externalizing.

Part two: The 30-minute deconstruction

Examining the experience you just had:

  • What became visible?
  • What has this visibility made possible?
  • What was happening within the structure?
  • What can you leverage?

This second part makes this cohort valuable at three levels: you'll explore and unearth your own patterns, integrate or internalize your new perspectives, and learn from the architecture of the experience.

Keep in mind that this is not an introductory business-building program or a tactical system for constructing and scaling a brand.
We will not completely design your practice, business, positioning or marketing in six weeks.

This is for experienced professionals who:

  • Have substantial experience from which their distinctive practice can emerge.
  • Are building or reshaping their work in coaching, consulting, facilitation, training, and related “expert” fields.
  • Want their business to be a genuine expression of how they see, understand, and create impact.
  • Are willing to pause, explore, articulate, listen, and contribute to the group.
